portfolio

For a theme on my website portfolio, I think that I am going to choose positions on the baseball field. I will decide on the positions in the future but for the last project I will probably make the position to be a hitter with the bases loaded to sort of sum up the idea of the projects and the revisions/thoughts on them.

Facebook Causes and Redesign

When searching around for different Facebook causes, I stumbled upon a cause called Youth Against Corruption. What this cause entails is the fact that 40% people do not know what goes on in the daily world, and the other percentages of people do not care or are not interested. What Youth Against Corruption hopes to solve or accomplish, is to build an army of true, dedicated, and committed youth that are motivated t oshape the nations progress. They feel as if being aware is one of the most important steps you can take in changing yourselves in order to change the future. Overall, I could not really tell what this cause was trying to accomplish because I felt as if they were vague in their descriptions and about me sections. They had a lot of information on their site with a lot of rambling to go along with it. I would have leveled the information so it seemed more consolidated because it seemed all over the place when I visited the site. Also, there were a lot of grammatical errors involved in much of the sites areas. This makes it seem less credible and almost as if it is being ran by teens that are just experimenting and not totally dedicated to their mission. At first it seemed as if they had some success due to the amount of likes and page views they have got. As I read on I noticed that most of these “likes” were not active in the page itself. http://www.facebook.com/wewillmakethedifference

Reshaping Slacktivist Rhetoric

In this article, the main points that are being exemplified have to do with various citizens and civic duties once again. In one point the article states that citizens who focus solely on the daily production and consumption aspect of life, do not have a strong foundation when tracing back to a traditional manner of nationality. Along with this economic citizenship, comes a study that Elizabeth Erven took part in claiming that students usually separate the personal self from the educational self. From what I understood from further reading, was that students do not consider themselves to a group of integrated learning communities. Instead students and people wrapped in an institutionally driven environment, prefer to learn on a peer-to-peer basis which includes “sharing information” and different means of “staying informed”. As I read further, the section about the Writing and Rhetoric Program came up and started to discuss whether or not student should be focusing on how the new means of technology are set up as means of persuasion in the daily world. I agree with this somewhat because I feel that people now a days are not using the technology to their fullest potential or making the most out their susceptibility to it in their daily lives.

Social Network Article

Some main points that were discussed in this article had to deal with the structure of these social networks, and the friendship roles that we play in these social networks. Some researchers actually study social networks and label the majority of people, and friendships that are formed on these networks whether they are passive members, inviters, and linkers who fully participate. The idea of impression management can vary in social networks. Of course the main goal in the social networking world is for people to represent themselves in the most accurate way possible, but than again this is not always the case. Many people have "authentic" pages, and many people have "Fakesters" for pages which is a name brought by the conclusion that a profile cannot be real. I feel that this article basically states that social networks are what you make them. You can use a social network to promote issues of concern, to create friendships, to portray accurate descriptions of yourself so others can look at it and get a feel for who you are as a person.

Social Networking

I think that social networks such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc., do a real accurate job of setting up the networks so that they are extremely user friendly. I think that if you are going to have a social network be successful, you need to set it up so that the structure of the network is easily accessible, and easily navigated. Social networking can be put to good use but most people use it now a days to post, and look through senseless things. For example, a large percentage of people use Twitter to follow celebrities and post things that are totally unimportant to issues that are currently going on around the globe.

Contact Webmaster

I chose to contact my cousin Matt Celeste who runs the website blueflashphotography.com which is a website in which he shares photographs and different items he is designated to take through the week whether that be for weddings, party's, etc. I asked my cousin why he chose to lay his website out the way he did. The website is for anybody that wants my cousin to take photos of them for different occasions, and upload them so that they can go back and view the photos via the website. He explained to me why he chose such a simple layout, and it was because he wanted his viewers to feel extremely comfortable when navigating through the website. He also told me he chose the bare minimum for a color scheme because it is more of a professional type of website than one that is merely to catch the eye of the visitor. He chose to put a picture of himself on the website so that visitors see exactly who is running the site. He felt like it would be a personable approach to the visitors to put a picture of the site designer on the "about me" section.

Underground Fiend

After searching around Google Sites, I realized that the layout was very simple and user friendly. I created a site called  Underground Fiend , and what this site is ideally going to accomplish is to display an array of mostly 90's underground Hip-Hop. I am still getting used to Google sites but all together I like how user friendly it is and how it lets you choose your own templates and designs. The only things I really messed around with on Google sites, was the navigation, sidebar resolutions, and different color schemes. However, I am trying to delete this horrible video that somebody put up there but I do not know how and I could not find an answer on Google Sites anywhere. Hopefully, my friend teaches me how to use GIMP or Photoshop, so that I can make my own title for the page that looks better than what it is set as now. Overall, I think that the group project we are involved in currently, will help me gain some experience for the future.
